N·B·F Architects provided architectural design services for the major rehabilitation of two existing buildings, totaling ten apartment units, at an affordable housing development in Bethel, Vermont. Civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering were included in the design contract.
Work consisted of removing the existing entrances and constructing a new front porch that opens to a lawn area in front of the building to provide an improved sense of community. New interior and exterior finishes, siding, trim, and roofing create an improved curb appeal. Energy improvements consist of new attic and continuous wall insulation, triple glazed windows, gas fired condensing boilers, and a solar domestic hot water system. Major site work improved the site access and drainage. The result of this project is an upgraded living standard for the residents.
